What is Google for Nonprofits?
Google for Nonprofits is a program for eligible nonprofit organizations, providing access to free or discounted Google products that help organizations manage internal work, communicate with teams, and share their mission.
The program includes products such as Google Workspace for Nonprofits, Google Ad Grants, YouTube Nonprofit Program, and Google Earth and Maps, depending on eligibility and product availability in the organization’s country.
Eligibility and excluded organizations
To qualify, an organization must be registered as a charitable or nonprofit organization in a country or region where the program is available, and must meet the local official eligibility requirements.
Verification is handled through Goodstack, which may request additional information or documents to confirm the organization’s nonprofit status and the applicant’s relationship to the organization.
Google notes that certain organizations are generally not eligible, including government entities, hospitals or healthcare organizations, schools, universities, and academic institutions, although independent charitable arms may qualify in some cases.
What should you prepare?
- Full legal name as shown in the official registry.
- Charity or nonprofit registration number.
- Registration certificate or official registry link.
- Legal address and official website.
- Organization-owned domain and official email, if available.
- Applicant details, role, and proof of relationship to the organization.
Application steps
- Review the official eligibility page and confirm that the registration country is supported.
- Go to Google for Nonprofits and select Get started.
- Sign in with a Google account suitable for managing the application, ideally an organizational account.
- Enter the organization and applicant information exactly as it appears in official records.
- Wait for verification from Google and Goodstack, and respond to any additional information requests.
- Once approved, activate each product separately from the Google for Nonprofits account.
Activating Google Workspace for Nonprofits
After approval, sign in to Google for Nonprofits and select Google Workspace for Nonprofits. If the organization is not already using Workspace, it usually starts with a trial, verifies domain ownership through DNS, and then requests the upgrade to the Nonprofits plan.
If the organization already uses Google Workspace, it can request activation of the Nonprofits edition on the existing domain after meeting the requirements and verifying ownership through the Workspace activation page.
